Some branding sessions just click.
When Christa first reached out to me about personal branding photography in Cambridge, Ontario, I knew this session was going to be something special. From our very first conversation, ideas were flowing. As two creative, visual people, we instantly connected over storytelling, colour, and creating images that actually meant something.
This wasn’t going to be just another gallery of headshots.
This was about telling the story behind heARTfelt Studio Art Therapy—a business built on creativity, compassion and connection.
From Art Teacher to Art Therapist
heARTfelt Studio Art Therapy came to life after Christa completed her two-year Art Therapy program through the Canadian International Institute of Art Therapy.
After spending 18 years teaching Grade 7 and 8 art, she felt called toward a new chapter—one that allowed her to continue helping others while embracing her creative side.
When I asked Christa what inspired this new chapter, she shared:
“I knew I wanted to continue to work in a capacity that allowed me to honour my ‘helper’ side while also embracing my artist self. Art therapy seemed like a natural fit and I couldn’t be more excited to start this new journey.“
As she continued her education, she quickly realized just how powerful art therapy truly is.
“It’s not just about the finished product—the whole creative process has so much to reveal about what’s going on.“
She also noticed there were very few art therapists serving the Kitchener-Waterloo and Cambridge area. Opening heARTfelt Studio Art Therapy meant creating more access to art therapy locally while also offering virtual services for clients across Ontario.

A Custom Branding Session Designed Around Her Story
Every business is different, which is why every branding session I photograph is customized.
For Christa, we designed a custom two-hour branding session in a beautiful indoor creative space. It wasn’t a traditional photography studio, but it couldn’t have suited her brand better. The warm brick walls, cozy furniture and artistic atmosphere reflected exactly how she wants clients to feel when they work with her.
Throughout the session, we captured so much more than portraits.
We photographed Christa connecting with clients, leading creative activities, working on art projects, enjoying a quiet coffee break, and creating behind the scenes. We also captured flat lays, detail images, social media content, website images, and plenty of lifestyle portraits that showcase her personality.
One of my favourite parts of the session was incorporating subtle heart elements throughout the gallery. After all, the heart is right there in the name—heARTfelt Studio Art Therapy. Whether it was handmade artwork, heart-shaped gestures or colourful creative moments, those little details helped tell the story of her brand in an authentic way.

Why Branding Photography Matters for Therapists
When someone is looking for a therapist, they’re not simply choosing a service—they’re choosing a person they’ll trust with their story.
That’s why personal branding photography is so valuable for therapists, counsellors and other helping professionals.
Before someone ever reaches out, they’re already forming a connection through your website and social media. Warm, authentic imagery helps potential clients feel comfortable, welcomed, and confident that they’re reaching out to the right person.
Your brand photos should feel like you.
Not overly posed.
Not overly polished.
Just genuine.
Because genuine connection is what builds trust.

Then We Let the Creativity Flow in Downtown Galt
After our indoor session, we headed into Downtown Galt in Cambridge, Ontario.
The colourful murals, historic architecture and artistic vibe were the perfect backdrop to finish Christa’s gallery.
This is where we really let the creativity flow.
We incorporated murals, chalk art, colourful textures and relaxed lifestyle portraits that added another layer to her visual story. These outdoor images brought variety to her gallery and gave her endless options for her website, blog posts, newsletters and social media.
One of my favourite things about branding photography is creating images that don’t just look beautiful—they continue working for your business long after the session ends.

A Creative Collaboration
Working with Christa was honestly such a joy.
She came into the session with wonderful ideas, and together we built on them throughout the day. There was such an easy creative energy between us that made everything feel natural and fun.
One of the things I enjoy most is collaborating with business owners who are passionate about what they do. Christa trusted the process while also bringing so much of herself into the session, and I think that’s exactly why the gallery feels so authentic.

Kind Words from Christa
Reading Christa’s feedback truly made my day.
“Working with Kendra was amazing! From day one, she was open to my creative ideas and worked with the parameters of the meaningful space. The photos turned out wonderfully and I felt truly relaxed and able to show my authentic self during the shoot.“
She also shared something that means so much to me:
“She even accommodated my desire to do some outdoor shots and shots with models. She also reached out to my website designer to ensure I’d have what I needed for the site. I didn’t wait more than half a day for an email response.“
Helping clients create beautiful images is one thing.
Helping them build a strong visual brand that supports their website, marketing and business goals is what I love most.

Brand Photos That Keep Working for You
One of the best parts of any branding session is seeing clients actually use their images.
Christa shared:
“The photos are perfect for my website, social media and print materials and I’ve been making use of them daily.“
That’s exactly the goal.
Professional brand photography shouldn’t sit in a folder on your computer. It should become one of the hardest-working assets in your business—helping you show up consistently, build trust, and confidently market your services.

“Be yourself, let your personality shine through and have fun with it!“
I couldn’t agree more.
