Beyond the Headshot: Corporate Team Photography in KW

August 28, 2026

Corporate team portrait at The Tannery District in Kitchener

When I photograph a corporate team, I’m not just thinking about updating everyone’s LinkedIn headshot.

I’m thinking about the bigger picture.

Who are the people behind this business? What does it feel like to work with them? How can we create a collection of images that feels polished and professional, but still has some personality?

Because your team is so much more than a row of people smiling at the camera.

And your corporate photos should be too.

More Than the Standard “Line Up and Smile”

Now, don’t get me wrong. There is absolutely a time and place for a beautiful, polished team portrait. We’ll get that shot!

But I don’t want to stop there.

When I photograph corporate teams, I love creating a mix of individual headshots, traditional group portraits, relaxed team photos and those in-between moments that show a little more personality.

Sometimes it’s getting everyone walking together.

Sometimes it’s changing up the groupings.

And sometimes it’s simply letting a few coworkers chat and laugh together while I keep photographing.

Those are often some of my favourite images from the entire session because you can actually feel the team dynamic.

Headshots That Feel Like You

Of course, individual headshots are still an important part of a corporate photography session.

The goal is to create professional portraits that feel consistent across the company while still letting each person look like themselves.

Because cohesive doesn’t have to mean cookie-cutter.

Not everyone needs the exact same pose, expression or background. I can create consistency through lighting, editing and the overall style of the session while still giving each person a portrait that feels natural to them.

The result is a collection of headshots that looks great together on your company website while also giving each team member a photo they’ll actually be excited to use on LinkedIn.

Win-win.

The Right Location Makes SUCH a Difference

One of my favourite parts of planning a corporate photography session is choosing a location that gives us options.

And The Tannery District in downtown Kitchener is such a great example.

It has beautiful brick, industrial architecture, greenery, modern spaces and both indoor and outdoor options, all within a relatively small area.

That means we can photograph a traditional headshot, move outside for something softer and more environmental, find an architectural backdrop for a full-length portrait, and then bring the entire team together for group photos.

All without packing everyone into cars and driving across the city.

More variety. Less running around. I’m a fan.

It also gives the final gallery that polished, cohesive feeling while still providing enough variety that the images don’t all look like they were taken in exactly the same spot.

And Then We Have a Little Fun

This is where corporate photography gets really good.

Once we have the must-have photos covered, I like to loosen things up.

Walk toward me. Chat with each other. Give me a little laugh. Pretend I’m not standing here with a giant camera pointed at you. 😂

Those slightly more relaxed photographs can be incredibly valuable because they show something a standard headshot simply can’t: connection.

And when potential clients, customers or future employees visit your website, seeing the real people behind the company helps make your business feel more approachable.

Professional? Absolutely.

But professional doesn’t have to mean stiff.

One Session = A LOT of Content

Another reason I love photographing corporate teams this way is that you walk away with so much more than a folder of headshots.

One thoughtfully planned corporate photography session can give your company images for:

  • LinkedIn profiles
  • Your website and About page
  • Team bios
  • Social media
  • Recruitment
  • Press and media
  • Presentations
  • Marketing materials
  • Company announcements
  • And all those “we need a photo for this!” moments that inevitably pop up

Instead of scrambling every time you need an updated image, you have a beautiful, cohesive library ready to go.

That’s always the goal: pretty photos, yes, but pretty photos with a purpose.

Why September Is Such a Great Time for Corporate Photos

September always feels a little bit like January to me.

Summer vacations wrap up, everyone settles back into routine and there’s suddenly this renewed energy around work, goals and what’s coming next.

New quarter. New projects. New team members. Fresh perspective.

It’s also often the moment companies look at their website and realize…

Oh. That headshot is from HOW many years ago?!

If your team has grown, leadership has changed, your brand has evolved or everyone’s headshots have slowly been collected from different photographers over different years, fall is a great opportunity to bring everything back together.

And from a photography perspective? September is pretty darn lovely.

We still have beautiful greenery, the temperatures are usually much more comfortable, and we can easily combine indoor and outdoor photographs to create lots of variety.

Your Photos Should Represent the Business You Are Today

Businesses evolve.

Teams grow. Brands change. People change.

And eventually, the photos representing your company need to catch up.

If you’re investing in updated corporate photography, my goal isn’t simply to give everyone a new headshot and send you on your way.

I want to create a collection of images that shows the people behind your business, individually and together.

Polished headshots. Strong team portraits. Genuine connection. A little personality.

And yes, probably a few laughs along the way.

Ready for a Refresh?

If your team is heading into fall with new faces, new goals or simply some very outdated headshots, it might be time for a refresh.

I photograph corporate headshots and team photography throughout Kitchener-Waterloo, Cambridge and the surrounding Waterloo Region, and sessions can include individual headshots, team portraits and a variety of corporate branding images.

Let’s create something that feels like your team and gives you photos you’ll actually be excited to use.
